I find it sad to read his misunderstanding of the US as such a monolith / unitary actor. Someone with so much experience there as him must know that his description of the US is just nonsense.
I’m sure not all Americans support US wars abroad, illegal US economic sanctions (eg against Cuba, Venue, Iran), sending arms to Israel, vetoing cease fire resolutions in Gaza, preventing Palestine joining the UN as a State, maintaining military bases all over the world, maintaining the second largest nuclear weapon stockpile in the world, using the CIA to destabilise other countries (instead of just providing intelligence), overthrowing democratically elected governments, breaking promises made to other countries, threatening the International Criminal Court, refusing to sign up to The Law of the Sea… Yes, not monolithic lots of Americans oppose US bad behaviour on the international relations …
Thank you for this illuminating piece.

Good to know that we never misunderstand China as a monolith / unitary actor.
