China’s Communist Party was not seen as our enemy. Deng Xiao Ping said ‘it is good to grow rich’ and Deng de-emphasized ideology with a cat metaphor. When Reagan and Bush were President, I was one of a hoard of Americans working to help China develop and to strengthen the PLA. I see results of my efforts when a Chinese fighter shot down a French Rafale. I see China manufacturing civil airliners and I remember translating advice on how China’s Minstry of Aviation needed to reorganize in order to gain international approval for Made in China aircraft.
Today China’s Communist Party functions like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. They are CINO, Communist in Name Only.
By forbidding MUTUALLY advantageous investments, Americans harm America.
Ignorance is making America more poor than they would normally be
Have to say, why does China care about investing in the US when it's quite likely the US will steal China's assets invested? Forget the US and invest in the rest of the world, that is, cong ming yi dian, dui bu dui? M. L.
Respectfully, I don’t think making “mutually beneficial” decisions is on either side’s mind. Some can even argue the US shouldn’t allow private Chinese capital for the exact reason that it will be mutually beneficial.
How should China deal with the risk of America expropriating Chinese investment? Maybe an investment treaty that requires US courts to enforce the judgements of Chinese courts? 😀
The only way I can find this even remotely acceptable by MAGA standards would be this:
Will there be ANY strings attached--especially if/when leading back to the MSS? 'Cause otherwise, what I'm seeing here with America 1st accepting mainland Chinese FDI is tantamount to what I recalled back in the late 80's to early 90's Japan, purchasing prestigious American real estate, etc...
HINT: it's not about conquering democratically sovereign land--AS OPPOSED TO capital flight, pre-1995 Lost Decade-turned Lost Generation...
